All i know about Aum, is how interestingly it claims to help sinusitis patients. Apparently, each of those aa, uu, umm sounds reveberate in your sinuses. that's why it's recommended in breathing exercises in Yoga.

interesting concept of finding a thread between you and the universe. there's a similar concept of Transcendentalism. It's a movement in history, where very prolific literature happened. It says that if there is a god, it is in a supreme "oversoul", which runs common in ALL things that exist. nice how at the end of the day, all cultures have similar ideas.
Maybe that's the unity of the human race - ideas. Thought. That's what binds all cultures together. Instead of moping that no ideas are unique, think we should marvel that all of us have an innate ability to understand, or even arrive at what somebody else intends to say, or has already said.

part of my combination, since it's a regular BA, is Optional English - which is English Literature and a bit about it's history. It's a fun subject, only till they tie up literature and torture an "apt" meaning out of it.
every movement is an antithetical reaction to a previous movement. so, transcendentalism was a response to an age of industrialization, and rapid commercialization. also, religiously, against an era led by The Word. People got fed up with the Puritans, and -ironically- sought their own dogma, outside The Church or The Bible.
i find it SO intriguing how the same idea of god, is viewed differently. see, the idea of god (whatever his form) being a creator - a source of life - is the same. across religions, across cultures, across streams of thought - be it scientific or aesthetic. But, you view him as a true, legitimate being, give him some kind of scientific structure.
to a non-scientific-god-structure believer, he cannot take the position of a god. god, to him, is abstract - in the sense, he is felt; experienced.
see, when i say unity of the race, i mean just the idea of a creator. that all of us share it. it's the basis of philo - where the hell did we come from?
